Leadership & Management – Adshel Street Furniture
Adshel
www.adshel.com.au
operates Australasia’s largest street furniture advertising business.
Major contract wins in Australia and New Zealand allow Adshel to offer
advertisers access to an extensive network of bus shelters and other street
furniture. Over the last five years, Adshel has embarked on a multi-million
dollar building programme to supply councils in Australia and New Zealand
with in excess of 11,500 pieces of street furniture. In 2002 Adshel approached AC to conduct a Personal Effectiveness Programme (PEP) for managers and “up and coming” high achievers within the organisation. The strategy was to reward these selected people and to “pipe-line” the future capability of the people within Adshel.
The
programme objectives were to:
- Develop leadership and interpersonal skills
- Develop character - build the self-confidence and self-esteem of the participants
- Develop the participants’ self-awareness and awareness of others in terms of behavioral impact
- Have fun, be adult in its approach, and create a safe environment where people can get out of their comfort zones in order to grow and develop
- Provide a course that the senior management see as an investment in their people, and bottom line returns become evident through the increased effectiveness of the participants
The programme is 5.5 days, starting on a Sunday, finishing on Friday,
staying in a guesthouse in the Southern Highlands NSW. One night the team’s
objective it to get to a location and camp the night. They have to source
all their supplies before the programme starts.
The CEO opens the programme then departs, returning on Friday to hear
the SMART action plans presented by the 14 participants.

The PEP consists of indoor facilitation of problem solving, decision
making and communication models, leadership and management skills, interpersonal
skills and outdoor experiential learning activities.
Due to the strong results of the 2002 programme, Adshel booked AC for
another PEP in 2003 for another group of 14 participants.
